Objective: To observe the treatment effect of procaterol hydrochloride joint inhaled corticosteroids on patients with cough variant asthma, and to evaluate the safety of such a treatment method. Methods: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study. According to randomized, double-blind, control principle ,40 patients who had been exactly diagnosed as cough variant asthma were divided into two groups: test group and control group, 20 cases of each group. The test group was treated with procaterol hydrochloride and budesonide dry-powder inhalant, the control group was treated with procaterol hydrochloride placebo and budesonide dry-powder inhalant. They all were continuously treated for 8 weeks. Follow-up clinic visits were scheduled after four and eight weeks, meanwhile, evaluated the effectiveness and safety. The experimental datas were analyzed by SPSS 11.0 statistical software. The difference was significant(P < 0.05).Results: After 4 weeks, the cough complete anesis rate in the test group was 80%, the rate in the control group was 50%. After 8 weeks, two groups of cough symptoms were complete anesis. The beginning of cough anesis was 4.6 days for the test group. It was better than the control group which average cough relief started time was 9.9 days. The time of the test group cough complete anesis was 24.4 days for average. It was better than the control group whose the time was 32.9 days. There was no serious adverse reaction or serious adverse events in the two groups. Conclusion: Procaterol hydrochloride and inhaled corticosteroids for the effectiveness of cough variant asthma had better results than those inhaled corticosteroids, and did not increase the incidence of adverse reaction.
