Superficial mycosis, such as tinea corporis and tinea pedis,is the most common and frequently encountered disease in armed forces and other group living, causing significantly high incidence rate of non-battle reduction. Some investigation revealed that the prevalence rate of Superficial mycosis reached from 10% to 50% in different army units. However, there are still lack of an efficient prevention and protection system. As the main pathogen of tinea corporis and tinea pedis,Trichophyton rubrum and Trichophyton mentagrophytes are the two most principal dermatophytes. Quartermaster Institute of General Logistics Department of PLA recently developed a series of antibiotics textiles, including hemp textile, nano-silver loaded polyamide textile , inorganic silver finnishing cotton textile and so on, with expectations to prevent from the pathogenesis and transmission of superficial mycosis. Based on above, here we investigated the growth inhibitive effects of these textiles on Trichophyton rubrum and Trichophyton mentagrophytes, as well as the effects of repeated laundering on their antifungal ability.Part 1A study of three antibiotic textiles:their inhibitive effects on the growth of Trichophyton rubrum and Trichophyton mentagrophytesObjective:To investigate the growth inhibitive effects of hemp textile, nano-silver loaded polyamide textile and inorganic silver finnishing cotton textile on Trichophyton rubrum and Trichophyton mentagrophytes. Methods :Three textile samples were cultured on PDA medium following inoculation of prepared fungal suspension. Colony morphology and diameters were dynamically observed every 12h. A growth curve was drawn based on growth time and avervage diameters of the colony finally. Results: There were no colony growth at 12h and 24h on three antibiotic textiles.①On hemp textile, the colony diameters of Trichophyton rubrum and Trichophyton mentagrophytes were significantly smaller than that of cotton textile respectively in 36h~84h and 36h~72h(P<0.05), and later their diameters tended to be consistent;②In 36h~108h, the colony diameters of Trichophyton rubrum on nano-silver loaded polyamide textile was significantly smaller than than that of cotton textile(P<0.05). However, there was no significant difference between the colony diameters on nano-silver loaded polyamide textile and cotton textile when at 120h(P>0.05). The growth of Trichophyton mentagrophytes on nano-silver loaded polyamide textile began after 48h and was more slowly than that on cotton textile in 60h~108h(P<0.05);③On inorganic silver finnishing cotton textile, colonies of Trichophyton rubrum and Trichophyton mentagrophytes respectively began to grow after 48h and 60h, with their diameters significantly smaller than that of control cotton textile in 36h~~120h(P<0.05).Conclusion : When compared to cotton textile, all three antibiotic textiles had inhibitive effects on Trichophyton rubrum and Trichophyton mentagrophytes in a certain time interval, especially the inorganic silver finnishing cotton textile showed more effective and persistent antifungal function.Part 2Effects of repeated laundering on the antifungal ability of Three antibiotic textiles against Trichophyton rubrum and Trichophyton mentagrophytesObjective:To investigate the effects of repeated laundering on the antifungal ability of hemp textile, nano-silver loaded polyamide textile and inorganic silver finnishing cotton textile against Trichophyton rubrum and Trichophyton mentagrophytes. Methods :Three textile samples were cultured on PDA medium following inoculation of prepared fungal suspension. Colony morphology and diameters were dynamically observed every 12h. A growth curve was drawn based on growth time and avervage diameters of the colony finally.Results:①On hemp textiles which were washed 1,15 and 30 times, the growth of Trichophyton rubrum seemed to be more slowly than that of cotton textile within 96h,84h and 72h respectively(P<0.05),and later their diameters tended to be consistent;Within 84h and 72h,the colony diameters of Trichophyton mentagrophytes on 1 and 10 times washed sampless were significantly smaller than than that of cotton textile(P<0.05). However, there was no significant difference between the Trichophyton mentagrophytes diameters on hemp textile and cotton textile after 30 and 50 cycles of washing (P>0.05).The growth situation of the two dermatophytes on 30 and 50 times washed sampless were similar to that of cotton textile allthough 120h.②The colony diameters of Trichophyton rubrum and Trichophyton mentagrophytes on 1 and 10 times washed nano-silver loaded polyamide textiles were significantly smaller than that of cotton textile within 120h(P<0.05).However,there was no significant difference between the dermatophytes diameters on nano-silver loaded polyamide textiles and cotton textile after 30 and 50 cycles of washing (P>0.05).③The inhibitive effects of inorganic silver finnishing cotton textile on the growth of Trichophyton rubrum and Trichophyton mentagrophytes were most obvious.Although after 30 cycles of washing, they also showed a better performance than cotton textiles within 120h.When washed 50 times ,they seemed to have lost the potential of inhibiting fungus growth. Conclusion:When compared to cotton textile, all three antibiotic textiles showed effective and persistent antifungal function against Trichophyton rubrum and Trichophyton mentagrophytes in a certain time interval. Especially hemp textile exhibited better washing fastness properties, which maybe related to itself fiber structure.Nano-silver loaded polyamide textileinorganic silver finnishing cotton textile had good antibiotic property, but not so good launderability.Part 3A study of three nylon textiles:their inhibitive effects on the growth of Trichophyton rubrum and Trichophyton mentagrophytesObjective:To investigate the growth inhibitive effects of three antibacterial finished nylon textiles on Trichophyton rubrum and Trichophyton mentagrophytes. Methods :Three textile samples were cultured on PDA medium following inoculation of prepared fungal suspension. Colony morphology and diameters were dynamically observed every 12h. A growth curve was drawn based on growth time and avervage diameters of the colony finally.Results:0# , 1# and 2# is respectively blank control nylon fabric, 1.8% silver-loaded nylon textile and 1.9% Nano-ZnO/Ag finished nylon textile.①On 0# samples which were washed 1,15,30 and 50 times , the colony diameters of Trichophyton rubrum and Trichophyton mentagrophytes seemed to be consistent with that of cotton textile.②Within 120h, the colony diameters of two dermatophytes on 1 and 15 times washed 1# textiles were significantly smaller than than that of cotton textile(P<0.05). However, there was no significant difference between the Trichophyton mentagrophytes diameters on 1# textile and cotton textile after 30 and 50 cycles of washing (P>0.05). The growth of Trichophyton rubrum on 30 and 50 times washed 1# textiles was more slowly than that on cotton textile within 96h(P<0.05);③The colony diameters of two dermatophytes on 1 and 15 times washed 2# textiles were significantly smaller than than that of cotton textile(P<0.05). However, there was no significant difference between the Trichophyton mentagrophytes diameters on 2# textile and cotton textile after 30 and 50 cycles of washing (P>0.05). The growth of Trichophyton rubrum on 30 and 50 times washed 1# textiles was more slowly than that on cotton textile within 84h(P<0.05).Conclusion:When compared to cotton textile, 1# and 2# textiles had inhibitive effects on Trichophyton rubrum and Trichophyton mentagrophytes, even after 15 cycles of washing they both showed an effective and persistent antifungal function.
