Objective:To study the changes of immunologic function in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and the intervention by BCG polysaccharides nucleic acid. Methods:We selected 90 subjects with COPD and divided them into two group:COPD group of acute exacerbation (n=30), COPD group of remission (n=60). At the same time, 60 healthy subjects were chosen as control groups:healthy senile group (n=30) and 30 h-ealthy non-senile group (n=30). In addition, we allocated the COPD patients at remission stage into treatment group (n=30) and control group (n=30) randomly. COPD treatment group received BCG polysaccharides nucleic acid (0.35mg intramuscular injection, three times a week) and conventional therapy while COPD control group only received conv-entional therapy. The patients in two groups were followed up for 1 month. Lymphocyte subpopulation, NK and B lymphocyte percentages were determined before and after treatment.Results:①Compared with non-elderly healthy adults,CD3+,CD4+,CD4+/CD8+,B lymp-hocyte in healthy senile group were decreased (all P<0.05)while NK lymphocyte percent-age was increased (all P<0.05).②Compared with the healthy senile group, healthy non-senile group and COPD group of remission, COPD of acute exacerbation patients showed decrease of CD3+,CD4+,CD4+/CD8+ and B lymphocyte (all P<0.05),while NK lympho-cyte were increased(all P<0.05).③Compared with healthy senile group and healthy non-senile group, CD3+,CD4+,CD4+/CD8+,B lymphocyte in COPD group of remission were decreased(all P<0.05)while NK lymphocyte were increased(all P<0.05).④In COPD control group, there were no differences in CD3+, CD4+, CD8+, CD4+/CD8+, B lymph-ocyte and NK lymphocyte between pre and post treatment(all P>0.05).⑤After treatment with BCG polysaccharides nucleic acid CD4+, CD4+/CD8+ and B lymphocyte were significantly increased (all P<0.05), while CD8+ were decreased (all P<0.05). CD4+, CD4+/CD8+and B lymphocyte were higher in COPD treatment group after receiving BCG polysaccharides nucleic acid, than those in COPD control group pre and post treatment (P<0.05) while CD8+ were decreased(P<0.05).Conclusions:①With the growth of age, immunologic function declines in healthy people.②Abnormal immune responses can be found in COPD patients, especially during acute exacerbation.③BCG polysaccharides nucleic acid can improve immunity in patients with COPD.
