Objective:Atrial fibrillation is a common clinically tachyarrhythmia, the related complications which includes heart faihure and thromboembolism seriously threatened the health of human. The digestive complications associated with the ablation have paid highly attention. The digestive complications include:atrial-esophageal fistula, eophagus around injuty of pneumogastric nerve, phrenic nerve, gastrointestinal, paralytic ileus, and gastroparesis. However, the mechanisms of them are still remaining unclear. This experiment investigated the changes of gastrointestinal dynamics before and after atrial fibrillation radiofrequency ablation,in order to manifest the effects of the operation on the digestive system and provide guidance for clinical works. Methods:Sixteen patients in our hospital from March 2010 to December 2010 were enrolled. All the patients were suffer from paroxysmal atrial fibrillation and refractory to at least one antiarrythmia drug.Elimination condition:rheumatic heart disease, hyperthyroidism, myocardial infarction, and left atrial thrombosis. The history of atrial fibrillation was 1-10 years.10 males,2 patients with hypertension and 1 with chronic superficial gastritis that age between 42 and 76.To analyse the digestive fuction by compare the gastrointestinal evacuation times before and after cahtetr ablation. Results:After radifrequency ablation, all the patients showed sinus rhythm and without any complication.the changes of gastrointestinal evacuation times before and aftetr ablation were not significant in all the patients. The extent of ablation were associated with the degree of gastrointestinal evacuate delay. The degree of delay time in patient accepted circumference pulmonary vein isolation added ablation lines in left atria were more significant than patient accepted circumference pulmonary vein isolation only. Conclusions:The influence of ablation to the gastrointestinal fuction in patients with atrial fibrillation is associated with the area of ablation performed.Positive precausion strategy including gastrointestinal drugs could minize the effect of ablation to the digestive fuction.
