The detection of occlusal contacts has gained extensively used in scientific research and clinical application in the past dozens of years. And the finite element method combined with oral medicine to solve the occlusal contacts problems in the mandibular orthognathic operation is gradually become the trend of the development.Based on MIMICS reverse engineering, ABAQUS finite element analysis software, this paper aims at studying the quantitative of occlusal contacts used the finite element method. The method could make preoperative prediction for the orthognathic surgery. This method assures both facial appearance change effect and the number of occlusal point, so the method has a certain practical application value. The major work and results are as follows:1. According to the complexity of clinical occlusal mechanical model and Articular disc anatomy structure, this article proposes a new way that the movement of the mandibular loaded by masticatory muscle from the perspective sports. The simplified mechanical models of different occlusal patterns were invented based on electromyography and muscle strength amplitude curves, and this mechanical model available in the software.2. From the application of the finite element analysis in biomechanical studies, this paper studies on the biomechanical model of how close to the true biological model and makes corresponding research. And proposes some innovative processing: the simplification of mandible and dentition, the setting of boundary condition and assignment of material, especially the simplification of the temporomandibular joint and loading process of masticatory muscle. The finite element model of occlusal is established, provided an effective method to solve the finite element analysis, and it could simulate various occlusal patterns.3. The analysis and evaluation of occlusal film were summarized, the centric occlusion is analyzed and calculated combined with the occlusal finite element model. The stress cloud chart of occlusion and occlusal film were got, the stress cloud were changed into occlusal point form through the image transformation method, so it is possible to the quantitative evaluation of occlusal contact.4. Two cases of mandibular malformations were applied into research by the evaluation method; a better operation scheme is made according the result of analysis of occlusal contact, as well as the location and the consumption of osteotomy. Finally, the paper draws a conclusion and makes the prospects for further study on finite element method and biomechanics applied to Oral medicine.
