Injures to tendons are very common in clinical diseases. Tissue engineering technology is widely used all over the world to repair the tendon at present. The scaffold for tissue engineering of the tendon is not only the sustainment to maintain its original structure, but also provides a site for cell-seeding,attaching and proliferating, which can be gradually reabsorbed and replaced by natural tissue. In order to meet the requirement above, polyglycolic acid (PGA) and polylactic acid(PLA) fibers are selected as the suitable materials for making tissue engineering scaffolds due to their good biocompatibility and biodegradability. They can be thoroughly absorbed and no harm to human body, and overcome the drawbacks of the conventional materials for tendon repair. So the two filaments with different proportions are braided together to form the braided yarns and their structures and properties are discussed. A special core-sheath structure is designed for the scaffold of the tissue engineering tendon.Braided structure and the plain stitch structure are tried to be used in sheath fabrication, and the latter structure is selected to be the most suitable according to the property requirement of the tissue engineering tendon.Circular and plain knitting machine are used in sheath fabrication, and then by the orthogonal experiments the optimum parameters are obtained.According to the optimum parameters above,PGA/PLA braided yarns are knitted into the sheath of scaffold. The mass loss and tensile strength of the sheath are analyzed during in vitro degradation. In a word,we regard this scaffold of the tendon is feasible, which is composed of an array of parallel PGA filaments as the core and the plain stitch structure manufactured with PGA/PLA braided yarns as the sheath.
