This thesis starts with a short autobiography of the great and famous Tibetan scholar Buston. Arguably, his writings and contribution towards the translation and cataloguing of the Kangyur and Tangyur are of paramount importance in the history of Tibetan Buddhism and its impact on the subsequent growth and formation of the direction the Tibetan culture took in establishing its unique place in the collective mindset of the Tibetan individual. The thesis gives an in-depth analysis on the cataloguing of his writings, and more profoundly discuss and analyze the reference materials of the translations catalogue of Buston. The thesis explores the different schools of thought on the question of "how" and " why" the scholar Buston wrote the translations catalogue, giving some insightful theories and information on how Buston succeeded in doing an exemplary job in those difficult times, and how it became the most important catalogue of translations and how other famous scholars used it during their later work on catalogues and translations.
