In the process of“Chinese culture going out”translated literature has become an important way of cultural communication.Goldblatt,a famous American contemporary translator, has been devoting himself to translating Chinese modern and contemporary literature for Western readers and has made great contributions to the influence of Chinese literature in the world literary circle. The research object of this thesis is a contemporary Chinese medium-length novel Wo Bu Shi Pan Jinlian(《我不是潘金莲》)translated by Goldblatt. The language used in the novel is mostly common language, and the colloquial language style plays a great role in constructing the character image of the heroine,Li Xuelian,a rural woman. In different linguistic situations, the same Chinese word in the novel often expresses different meanings, and its English translation process reflects the translator?s subjectivity, which is worthy of further study. Therefore, from the perspective of the translator?s subjectivity, this study aims to study the phenomenon of multi-translation of the core words in Goldblatt?s English version of I did not Kill my Husband.Through the method of self-built corpus, this study studies the phenomenon of multiple translation of the core words in Goldblatt?s translation of I did not Kill my Husband.,including three words“折腾”“闹”“帽子”.After a statistical analysis of the data,it is found that the English translation methods of these high-frequency core words are diversified.First of all,the word“折腾”appears 47 times in the original text, and there are 21 kinds of English translation methods appeared in the translation. The second worth studying word is“闹”,which appears 43 times in the original text and it has been translated into 25 forms in the translation. The third is the word“帽子”and it appeared 9 times in the novel and there are 7 kinds translation methods. Therefore,we can see that these words are polysemous words. The translator Goldblatt also translated the same words in a variety of ways in his English translation. This translation phenomenon is worthy of in-depth analysis and research. This study takes the translator?s subjectivity theory as the research perspective. The translator is the main component of translation and an important participant in the construction of national culture. However, the main component of translation has been covered for a long time in China?s multicultural system, leading to the marginalization of the translator?s cultural status. With the “cultural turn” of translation studies, the main component of translation has been paid due attention and gradually deepened. The essence of the main component is manifested in its initiative, initiative and self characteristics and these characteristics constitute the translator?s subjectivity.Through the study of the methods of English translation of the three core words, this study makes an in-depth analysis of the phenomenon of multiple translations of the same words in the English translation of I did not Kill my Husband, which shows that the translator fully plays his subjectivity role in the translation process.Through to full interpretation of Chinese text, translators have realized the diversity and complexity of Chinese idioms,as well as high-frequency core vocabulary. The words“折腾”“闹”and“帽子”in different contexts have subtle semantic differences, and on the same terms for diversified translation, fully illustrates the translator plays important role. This study is also devoted to promoting the vital role of the translator as the subject of translation, because the translator is the subject of translation and the second author of literary work, which plays a vital role in encouraging our national culture to go global.
