The Study On The Myth Of Ancient Goddess Wu Shan

The myth of ancient goddess Wu Shan is the best-known in numerous myths which relevant to Wu Shan. The myth of ancient goddess experienced about three stages in the spreading process This myth was the earliest recorded in"Shang Hai Jing"as follows "the daughter of Yan Emperor goddess, died into grass."The people in the Warring States Period named Song Yu described a story about goddess Wu Shan met Chu Xiang Wang in Tang ,which was recorded in his work of"Fu Tang".In Tang Dynasty ,the scriptures"Yong Cheng Ji Xian Lu"which was compiled by Du Guan Ting, and the story of goddess Wu Shan became who is the twenty-third daughter of Queen Mother of the West and gave"Shang Qing Bao Shu"to Yu to help his water-control. My content of the paper include three parts. In fist part, I am to summarize the study about the myth of ancient goddess Wu Shan during these years. Most of scholars studied the myth mainly focused on three aspects are whether"Fu Tang"was witted by Song Yu, what is the prototype about goddess, and what is the theme in"Fu Tang". Although these studies have obtained many achievements, some problems should be taken attention to. The most obvious problem is that there is not have a complete system in the spread of goddess. Most of them contributed to the part of"Fu Tang"but ignored the others, and the discussion on archetype is key part of key. So I will try to combs a generation of this myth development vein, and analysis each element what to compose this myth to seek real cause of the fairy story evolution from the standpoint of historical and cultural background. I hope my paper could implement this study as far as possible. The others I will analyze it in the different edition of literature and Daoism respectively. In the second part, I would like to retort upon Mr. Wen yi-duo's standpoint, because I don't agree with it which was showed firstly in"The analysis about Gao Tang goddess", the view that Gaotamg goddess not only is primogenitor of Chu, but also Gao Mei god, was became the foundation to study by many scholars. Then I make my point that this myth happened in Warring States Period when necromancers were arisen, and Lucid Ganoderma grew in Gao Tang has some characters is the Aganippe in"Fu Tang". Through this story, Song Yu wanted to exhort his monarch could concern people of Chu. In third part, the author considers that the combination of tang culture and Taoist sprit in the process of goddess image evolution played an important role. Wu Shan Goddessv is not only the product of culture, but also reflected the ultimate thought of Daoism. This myth was synthesized by certain cultural factors in occasional situations in the long history. The evolution of whole myth embodies interaction between the characteristics of the historical culture and the features of The Times.
