"Water Margin" and "The legend of Robin Hood," as the two major eastern and western novels, has always been the concern of researchers. But compared with the relations between the Water Margin story and the "Water Margin", " The legend of Robin Hood " is the story of Robin Hood, a representative of the text. Therefore, the various images of Robin Hood can be analyzed from old poem texts. This thesis further analyses the images of Song Jiang, the representative of Water Margin heroes and R.H. This analysis and comparison narrows the scope of research, changing the old practice of comparing the Water Margin Heroes as a whole with R.H., singling out the most representative image from the classic text, not a group of different heroes, to compare with R.H., is more convincing and valuable in comparative study. As two famous artistic figures, Song Jiang and R.H has been developing in their own national cultural background. The thesis points out that each of the two artistic figures has its own core image traits. In short, they are Song Jiang's "righteousness" and R.H's "loyalty". The thesis renews the image evolution of Song Jiang and R.H and their performance, implying the "righteousness" and "loyalty", which is the most significant difference. Differences in geographical environment, ways of production, folk concepts, social systems lead to the difference between Chinese and western traditional cultures, resulting in the two different images, reflected in the concept of revenge, love and many others. The train of thought in this thesis is comparing the two images first and analyzing the formation process of the two images in classic texts, which is one aspect of the comparison. In addition, this thesis answers the questions that why there is difference in similarity and there is similarity in difference, such as robbing the rich to give it to the poor, getting rid of the cruel and pacifying the good, and different revenge and attitudes towards women.Different from the general sense of "chivalry, Song Jiang demonstrates it in the form of saving people from distress but not the way of solving problems by awful killing like "to kill a person every ten steps, not leave a life within a thousand miles." The righteousness demonstrated by Song Jiang is different from that of the other Water Margin heroes. Their mutual help is not controlled by moral rules, although their chivalry is based on brotherhood and mutual help. Whereas, R.H has regarded himself as a protector of justice. He thought it should be seen as a social idea and followed by the whole society. For justice as a social ideal, he can become a "law outsider" from a knight. But the complexity of R.H is reflected in his respect and admiration towards the King Richard:on one hand, as a righteousness knight, when faced with the invasion of Normans, and all kinds unfairness caused by their corruption, R.H bravely bears his responsibility to combat the injustice, which definitely threatens and attacks the social and political system. But on the other hand, he respects and admires King Richard, the representative of unrighteous Norman and realistic political system.
