| Chinese characters are one of the oldest and the most widely used words in the world, compared with the alphabetic characters, it has some unique charaeteristies.Therefore,the study on Chinese characters recognition is one of the most flourishing fields concerned by researehers in different disciplines. The recognition of Chinese charaeters which contains kinds of information proeess such like grapheme and phoneme, and,the study on the grapheme of Chinese character is benefit to the understanding the feature of Chinese charaeters phoneme, as well as the vision recognition process and the complex pattern recognition process of Chinese charaeters phoneme, furthermore, it also advantageous in the efficiency of Chinese language learning and the promotion of Chinese character teaching.The orthography of Chinese characters is that people' understanding of" how to write correctly", however, the orthography processing occurs in the initial period stage of the Chinese character recognition, while people uses the knowledge about the Chinese characters writing rules to make an judgment on "character" or "non-charaeters". Formerly, related study of Chinese character orthography processing are mainly from the perspective of orthography consciousness development of Chinese children and the Chinese teaching as a foreign language, less on discussion orthography itself processing process. In addition, there has been a dispute on Chinese character recognition processing feature:does the processing mode is top-down or bottom-up processing? So, specific to a particular stage of Chinese character recognition, such as the process of orthographic processing,does it also exist the same problem? In the past, moreover, most of the study on the Chinese character recognition and its processing modes are used the single character as the experimental materials, if we extend this study to the level of words or sentences, whether the same conclusion will be get? These question are worth our exploring.This study subjects were college students,which the paradigm was "true or false characters judgement task". This study purpose was to investigate orthographic processing modes, as well as how words frequency, radical frequency influence orthographic processing.In experiment 1, we uesd single characters as material to investigate the orthographic processing modes and how character frequency influence it. Experiment 2 were based on the experiment 1, make a forther expedition on the impact of the radical frequency. Experiment 3 explored the orthographic processing mode on vocabulary level, as well as whether the words transparency have a significant influence.By analyzing the experimental data in our experimental conditions, the following conclusions can be drawn:(1) character frequency influence the orthographic processing of Chinese character significantly. Whether in single character or in the vocabulary level, the orthographic processing of high-frequency character are significantly faster than low-frequency characters.(2) The radical number influence the orthographic processing has been inconsistent results. Experiment 1 with single character as the experimental material, observed a significant main-effection of radical number,3 radical character orthographic recognition is slower than 2 radical character; to 2 character words as the experimental material was not significant main-effection observed in the experiment 3.(3)The main-effection of radical frequency in Chinese character recognition does not exist, but the nteraction between radical frequency and character frequency are significant, the radical frequency influence orthographic processing may be achieved through the characters frequency.(4) In addition to experiment 3, the main-effection of character type in experiment 1 and experiment 2 are significant.(5) The main-effection of words transparency is significant,the orthographic processing of high-transparency target word of Chinese characters to be significantly faster than the t low-transparency. |
