This paper examines effects of semantic transparency in two groups of Japanese learners of Chinese .The purpose of the research was to investigate how words was accessed and stored in Japanese mental lexicon. With the materials of transpanrent words and opaque words which are hi different frequency, one experiments was used to investigate word storting and processing in the mental lexicon of Japanese.The results suggest that semantic transparency and frequency both affect the patterns of lexical representation,but frenqucy is stronger than semantic transparency.The way of the storing word is different in two Japanese groups.And the learners shift their method of accessing and storing lexcial information as their language proficiency developed.
