From the perspective of public space, this article will regard the Athenian Agora as the public sphere to expand activities, by analyzing the different groups on the Agora, political communication, commercial activities and festivals to examine the the relationship among the Agora, Athenian polis and Paideia of citizens. The paper is divided into three chapters on the themes:In the first chapter, I firstly study the rise, development, prosperity and decline of ancient Athenian Agora from a vertical position. The Athenian Agora has been a piece of public cemetery. With the economic and social development, it gradually evolved from the private sphere into the public sphere after 6th century B.C. On this basis, I focus on studying the institution and its function in the Classical Athenian Agora. Finally, I analyzed the layout of Athennian Agora from the vision of architecture.The second chapter, I systematically analyzed the public activities in the Classical Athenian Agora. I examine the different groups, political communication, economical activities and festivals in the agora to try to reveal the relationship among the the classical polis , elite, the common people and metics.The third chapter, I focus on the relationship between the Agora and the polis democracy, Agora and Paideia of citizens. As a typical public space of polis. Agora and its activities play multiple functions. It not also offers the stage for citizens to participate the public activities, fosters the civic participant consciousness and collective ideas, conveys a sense of democracy, but also takes the tasks of cultural Paideia, moral and ethical norms.
