Novels of the soil have become an important component of the new century literature and sign of the underlying narrative. In the present and for a long period of time, many writers, especially in the field of novels of the soil, focus on the conflict of the farming civilization and urban civilization and the collision of the traditional and modern. This is the content of literary expression of the most conflicting and most cultural spirit in the long transition of urbanization in China. This paper analyses two types of writing about novels of the soil in the new century for the city and for the rural specifically by text reading. The former concentrates on the corruption of urban civilization, showing rural nostalgia and return to the traditional, the latter focuses on the ignorance and backwardness of the rural, reflecting sharp awareness of modern criticism by revealing rural rights, feudal ideology and traditional moral. They contain a paradox of the grasp of the rural and urban from contemporary writers of China:the rural is not only poetic, but also ignorant and backward, the city is both depraved and hopeful for the desperate farmers. So the contradictions and confusion reveal social problems and the cultural phenomenon worthy of reflection.
