East Meets West Wall

As is known to all,Higashiyama Kaii (1908-1999) is the most eminent painter as "a national treasure" in contemporary Japanese art world.He is one of the five great mountains with Kayama Matazō,Takayama Tatsuo, Hirayama Ikuo, Sugiyama Yasushi in Japanese early modern art circles.Furthermore,Higashiyama Kaii is the most outstanding person of these artists.Although he love european painting and music, Higashiyama learn Japanese painting instead of oil-painting to his father's demand in youthful days.In spite of that,Higashiyama always insists on his dream of western.He drew a lot of landscape paintings during his study of europe. Finally, Higashiyama create the exquisitely personal characteristic style of painting.Higashiyama said:" When I was born,I grew up in the joint point of the west and east.My fate is a dream of west.My fate is a fondness of east.It's my life."The formation of Higashiyama's artistic style is the perception of ups and downs of his life.It is the inheritance of Japanese traditional art.It is the spark of collision between east and west.Besides,it is the introspection of significant of life also.It's not easy that he express much connotation by means of language of art.There is not only helpful to us to understand restoration period of art after the second world war ,especially development of Japanese art in this period if we research the establishment process of Higashiyama's artistic style ,but meaningful to help us to think deeply and introspect more necessarily during our process of artworks .
