As a kind of cultural pattern, fashion has run through modern history of eastern and western countries. In the immeasurable length of time, Chinese and Western fashion culture have selected different developing directions due to different historical reasons, and then produced disparities in religion, aestheticism, life style etc. Because of this, fashions in China and the West differ in each own uniqueness and personality.Fashion always uses its peculiar material and spiritual nature to mirror social history of certain periods that it relies on. Certainly, the development of fashion mustnt surpass its social basis. Chinese fashion culture originating from yellow river civilization is deeply affected by the traditional eastern culture and strives to pursue its spiritual level. The abstract expression of fashion pattern which emphasizes linearity and ornamentation without exposing curve reveals an eastern sentiment of grace, modesty, elegance and reserve. In contrast, western fashion culture based on mediterranean civilization is largely influenced by Christian psychological thoughts of ancient Greece, art culture, scientific technology etc; so its aesthetic vision usually centers on three-dimensional structure, tries to chase after scientific level. Since its fashion pattern is subject to human body, the fashion curve shows clearly and takes a beautiful, courageous, elegant atmosphere coming from the practice.Western fashion culture has become the main line of the development of international fashion culture system by means of advanced nature, humanity and scientific management. But around the same time axis, China and the West also communicated a lot, and so did fashion field. Communication-transmission as well as collision-melting are important factors we should pay attention to in human fashion history. It is the absorbing of "progressing together" that make Chinese and the Western fashion history go on endlessly and flourishly.Firstly, the thesis summarizes the developing law of human fashion culture from historical development perspective and tells the evolution of Chinese and Western modern fashion culture. From that, we can perceive that Chinese fashion culuture has been westernlized completely without our own personality and style. The domestic fashion design is following the foreign popular trend, while those foreign designers are digging our culture treasures as a return. Secondly, the thesis elaborates on the different dressing concepts of Chinese and Western modern fashion culture. Through the deep analysis of color aestheticism mentality, national dressing concept and fashion performance, it illustrates the dressiong concept disparity between China and the West. Practice has shown Chinese fashion design should deeply root in our native land; only by this can the native fashion be accepted by Chinese masses who currently tend to accept vogue and melting and also by the world. Lastly, the thesis illustrates the design structure of Chinese and Western modern fashion culture. Through the deep analysis of pattern and its structure, fabric and ornamental design, location-people-culture and fashiong accessories, it illustrates the designing disparity between China and the West. Brilliant design works tend to absorb national elements from traditional art and rebuild itself using modern creative consciousness and expressing tactics, instead of simply repeating traditional fashion or slightly modifying it.Through the comparision of China and Western modern fashion culture, the thesis wishes all of the fashion designers should cherish our own tradition and peculiar culture at the same time of learning western advanced tenology and culture. By doing that, we will guide fashion development to a complete new way both with Chinese characteristics and in line with international standards, and contribute greatly to enriching the culture of all human beings.
