Modern Poetic Language Quantifiers Study

The vocabulary of poetry language has its own characteristic, and the use of measure word in modern poetry is different from daily language. This article is concerned with Chinese Modern Poetry Materials which is processing 2 million characters withdrawing the sentences which contain the measure word.On studying the the modern poetry materials, the author discovered that all of the measure words are simple measure words, and individual measure words are used frequently in modern poetry language. By using measure word and quantity phrases with overlapping forms to create harmony of rhythm and symmetric of sentences, it can show the beauty of poetry language. By using postposition-form of quantity phrases it can also strength the meaning and the emotion.The poets often use the measure words before abstract nouns to enhance the figurativeness of modern poetry language. The mdern poetry language also connects the words which can't collocate in semantic through a measure word.By contrasting the measure words in People's Daily (in January 1998) corpus and modern poetry language, the author illustrates that using of measure words are different in the following aspects:Firstly, on structure, the compound measure words are widely used in People's Daily, and without using compound measure words in poetry language. Secondly, on the species, there are more metrics measure words in People's Daily than that in modern poetry language, the compound measure words and metrics measure words have strong scientific, using less in poetry language. Thirdly, on the use of borrowed measure words, the poetry language focuses on images. Most of borrowed measure words borrowed from nouns and adjectives with the contour features, especially the borrowed measure words in People's Daily are mainly borrowed from containers measure words and measure words in body parts. On the semantic, the poetry focuses on expressing the image meaning of the measure words. The messages of quantity phrases in modern poetry language are more abundant, while the use of measure words connecting the words cannot collocate in semantic.
