The White-Haired Girl (Bai Mao Nv) is one of the most representative and most popular works of Opera in China and it's the first piece in China's own Opera creation which has a milestone significance. With its vivid creation of characters, its lyric and mellifluous melodies, as well as its widely popular arias, it has written a glamorous page in China's history of Art. Since its debut, the White-Haired Girl has become one of the most touching and most infuential operas in China. As it becomes a classic and its interpretation increases, the study on the role of Yang Bailao also involves more and more fields.This essay first analyses the historical background of Opera White-Haired Girl's creation and summarizes the artistic features of this work, and then focuses on the role of Yang Bailao, studying deeply its arias, its musical features and its character molding, so as to sum up the evolution of understanding Yang Bailao's Character features and the corresponding changes in performing this role, differentiating between appropriate and inappropriate changes, and as a result, provide theoretical guidance to the practice of performing this role.
