A beautiful poem can be used as lyrics in several vocal compositions of different styles. In this thesis, the author researches on different art songs written by four composers on the basis of the same poem—Xu Zhimo's the Joy of Snowflakes. Out of different understandings of the poem, four composers have used different composition techniques in the first-creation, which made the art songs all varied in style. As a result, singers will have more difficulties on second-creation. Only by thorough study on the first-creation and deep lyrical understandings of each work can singers master the stylistic characteristics of the four art songs. The purpose of this thesis is to lay emphasis on in-depth study of the first-creation of art songs, which is not only the vital part of creating perfect vocal works, but also the basis for accurate second-creation. On the basis of first-creation, by versatile vocal techniques, the ultimate aim of second-creation is to express deep emotions contained in the lyrics, elevate the significance of songs to a higher level, resonate with the audience both artistically and emotionally, and have perfect aesthetic experience. |
