The New Era Hui Novel Nationality And Modernity

Ethnicity and modernity are two important angles in research of China minority ethnic group literature. Ethnicity is foundation, modernity is goal. Basing on analyzing the change of the ethnicity and modernity view of minority ethnic group literature,this desertation focuses on the Hui novels after 1978 in order to generalize the style of building ethnicity and process of modernization of the Hui literature,and then discusses the dilemma when minority ethnic group literature tries to conform the ethnicity and modernity. At the same time,this thesis will reflect on the status of China minority ethnic group literature, calling for equal understandings and dialogues.This thesis falls into six parts, first is introduction, in this part,I'll review the current research of the Hui novels and define the key conception, such as "the Hui novels" "ethnicity" "modernity"and so on. The second part mainly introduces the development of the Hui literature and criticizes the three important novels,Funeral of Muslim, spiritual history and the knife in pure water. Summarizing the periodical features of the way how Hui novels buiding ethnicity and pursuing modernity is main content of the 3rd and the 4th part. The fifth part chiefly refers to the problem in conforming ethnicity and modernity.The last part aims at generalizing the main arguments of this thesis and pointing out the significance of equality for minority ethnic group literature.
