Sunthorn Phu is a famous poet in Thailand in the 18th century, he is listed as one of the world's top ten poets by UNESCO. Sunthorn Phu is also known as "The father of Glen". He occupies an important position in Thailand literary history.Sunthorn Phu was born in 1786,June 26. He experienced RAMA dynastyⅠ,Ⅱ,Ⅲ,Ⅳ, through his life, especially his love experience had important influence to his literary creation. He was a prolific writer and created lots of literary works, but only 24 pieces of them remained until today, including Niraat Muang Klang, Niraat Phetchaburi, Khun chang Khun Phaen and Phra Aphai Mani. Travel poetry is the major literary genre Sunthorn Phu created, which records what he saw and heard during the trips as well as demonstrates how he missed his lover.Phra Aphai Mani is Sunthorn Phu's masterpiece. There were 25500 sentences in the poem, the structure is grand, characters are numerous, the plots is rich in content and sinuous, the poem uses verse in language, reached the highest level of poetry. The poet started writing Phra Aphai Mani in 1822 or 1823, the writing was intermittent, lasted almost for whole his life. The Thais and foreign history, Thailand and foreign literature, Thailand's beliefs, culture and customs, the poet's imagination and prediction about the future society along with the poet's experience are the main inspirations for Phra Aphai Mani. In Phra Aphai Mani he created the main classical characters in the literary corridor of Thailand.There are many differences between Sunthorn Phu's poetry and Chinese poetry, from both macro and micro aspect. From the macro aspect, Sunthorn Phu's poetry is long, large-scale; from the micro aspect, education and narrative characters in his poem are rare in Chinese poems. Compared to LiBai, the most famous and great poet in Chinese history, both of them are romantic poets, they are geniuses owned brilliant talents; The difference between them is, the narrative feature in Sunthorn Phu's poetry is more apparent than Libai, and the lyricism features in Libai's poetry are more obvious than Sunthorn Phu's who also wrote a lot of love poems.In order to introduce Sunthorn Phu to the Chinese, enhance mutual understanding in Chinese academic circles about him and his works, but also to enhance cultural exchange between Thailand and China, this thesis uses methods such as:introducing lifetime of the poet, translating the poem, analyzing characters in works and comparative literature theory to study Sunthornp Phu and his works. Although this paper is the first Chinese paper systematically researching Sunthorn Phu's and his works, since the author's Chinese language proficiency is limited, there are still many problems that need to be studied further. I hope this paper can attract attention of Chinese scholars, so that the research of Sunthorn Phu can go further.
