The Linguistic Research Into The People's Name Of Shannan Town

Based on the sample of 78,401 names from Shannan town of Feixi county, using related theories of linguistics, this article makes a study of the names'features in the aspects of syllable number, reduplicated names number, etc, analyzes the use of rhetorical tactics such as metaphor, pun, character-analysis, etc, makes statistics of the sample's character number, high-frequency characters, polyphone, etc, and makes reasonable deductions and analysis of the relationship between names and sex/times. In addition, the problems, exiting in the naming, such as repetition, polyphone, are also analyzed. Correspondingly, some measures are proposed by the author.This article is composed of six chapters:The fist chapter is introduction, which mainly introduces the basic structures of Chinese names, the present situation of names study, the purpose, meaning, object and means of the study in the article, brief introduction of the history and current situation of the sample's attribution—Shannan town.In the second chapter names of Shannan town are studied basically from the perspective of phonetics. This chapter is divided into four parts:in the first part author makes statistics of the numbers of monosyllabic, disyllabic and trisyllabic names of different periods and different sex, puts emphasis on analyzing the reason of the number's variation of the monosyllabic names in different periods; in the second part 1,268 names from Banqiang village of Shannan town are selected as a sample to use for the study of tones. General features of tones are obtained and the reasons causing these features are analyzed; in the third part author makes statistics and discussion of the situation of names'reduplication and analyzes the reasons of variation of reduplicated names in different periods; in the fourth part the situations of alliteration and assonance of the names of Shannan town are sorted out simply.In the third chapter names of Shannan town are studied from the perspective of rhetoric. Rhetorical tactics, which are usually used in the names of Shannan town, such as metaphor, pun, character-analysis, reduplication, exaggeration, etc, are discussed.In the fourth chapter the situations of characters' use are introduced. This chapter can be divided into four parts:in the first part there are the general situations of character's use, including the total amount of characters and high-frequency characters; in the second part author discusses the relationship between characters and sex, counts the high-frequency characters used in male/female names, analyzes the types and reasons of sex fuzzifierion when using characters in male/female names, summarizes the features of characters use of male/female names and presents some more ideas of relationship between names and sex; in the third part, based on the statistics of stroke number of 1,607 names, author discusses the relationship between the characters' use of the names of Shannan town and stroke number; in the forth part author analyzes and compares the high-frequency characters of different periods, explains and shows the relationship between the characters' use of the names of Shannan town and times.In the fifth chapter, the problems, exiting in the naming of Shannan town people' names are discussed and analyzed. Correspondingly, some measures for decreasing duplication of names and judging polyphone are proposed by the author. In addition, the irregular characters used in the names of Shannan town are also analyzed.The sixth chapter-peroration,which summarizes the basic views of this article, and raises some quetions to be studyed further.
