Study Of The Phonology System Of Taihu Dialect

Taihu County belongs to Anqing city of Anhui province and locates in the border of Anhui and Hubei provinces. According to Language Atlas of China, Taihu dialect belongs to Huaiyue cluser of Gan dialect. This thesis firstly described the phonological system of Taihu dialect in detail, and then compared it with the phonological systems of Nanchang and Boyang dialects, tried to disclose the phonological features of Gan dialect of Taihu dialect. Second, compared Taihu dialect with Anqing and Yingshan dialects so as to discover the feature of Jianghuai Mandarin within Taihu dialect. Third, made comparison between Taihu dialect and Yuexi and Susong dialects, analyzed the influencing process that Jianghuai Mandarin made on the Southwest's dialect of Anhui province. On the basis of previous comparison, the thesis discussed the nature of Taihu dialect in order to offer evidences for solving the attributions of the dialects in the Southwest of Anhui province.This thesis is divided into seven chapters:Chapter 1:Preface. Introduced the background information of Taihu County, including the geographical position, history and a brief history of migration. Made remarks on the previous and present research of Taihu dialect so as to illustrate the significances and methods of this thesis as well as the source of the language stuffs.Chapter 2:Described the phonological system of the west district of Taihu dialect(County West dialect) and analyzed its initials, vowels and tones of a syllable, also introduced the difference betweent literal reading and colloquital reading.Chapter 3:Compared the phonological system of County West dialect with Middle Ancient Chinese; summarized the phonology features of County West dialect.Chapter 4:Described the interior differences of Taihu dialect and made partition of it.Chapter 5:Compared Taihu dialect with neighboring dialects. As the core contents of the entire thesis, this chapter compared the Taihu dialect with Gan dialect, Jianghuai Mandarin of Anhui province, Jianghuai Mandarin of Hubei province and dialect of southwest region of Anhui province from three levels, which are initial, vowel and tone. This research purports to explore the relations among Taihu dialect and Gan dialect, Jianghuai Mandarin, also uncover the process how Jianghuai Mandarin affect the dialect of southwest region of Anhui province.Chapter 6:The investigation of isolated word.
