The numeral is the character which could describe the number. The people in the primitive society created the numeral to count. As a part of language, the numeral form plentiful cultural intension gradually in the activities of producing and living. Just like languages in the world, the numeral exists in Chinese and Japanese. The small numerals play an important part in communicating and passing kinds of information. At the same time, because of the different local customs and practices, the numeral is endowed the different meaning. Although both China and Japan belong to the Eastern cultural circle, the numeral culture in the two countries has the same and different points.On the basis of beforehand research, the paper mainly carries on comparative research on the odd and even numbers view. First, in the introduction, elaborate the beforehand research, research methods, aim and meaning. At the same time, introduce the history of the numeral and inject the concept of odd and even numbers into the introduction. Second, in the main body, make the representative numeral as the example, investigate the mystery in the China and Japan, and elaborate the China and Japan numeral culture from the traditional culture and daily life. At last, analyze the forming reason in the China and Japan numeral culture and elaborate the China and Japan cultural characters from the numeral view. In the last part, elaborate the conclusion. Through the analysis and compare, the paper obtains the conclusions as follows:Specially speaking, both China and Japan not only have the worshipful psychology, but also think the numeral having the mysterious color. The two countries endow the numeral emotional color, like the lucky number and hate the taboo number. The Chinese traditional culture plays an important role in the forming process of the two countries'numeral culture and the numeral cultures in the two countries are influenced by the pronunciation and image of the numeral. The different between the two countries is that:China form the even numbers culture and Japan form the odd numbers culture.However, not all the Chinese worship all the odd numbers, for example, in the modern society, the No.4 is as the taboo. Chinese also like the even number as No.9 and make No.9 as the holy number. Although Japanese prefer odd numbers to the odd numbers, they hate No.13, and they make the No.8 as the holy number.The forming process of the China and Japan numeral culture reflect the cultural characters both the two countries:the China culture has the characters as nativity, creativity, and oneness, and the Japan culture has the open, subject and mixed characters.
