The Orogen People had been nomads in the north of China and during the long history of hunting and fishing they created a splendid culture, which includes the symbol of the civilization-the Totem culture. From an animistic perspective, the Totem culture illustrates their fear of the nature. The Orogen People settled down in 1953, ending their nomadic life as one of the minorities who entered the Socialist society directly from the primitive society. Having neve experienced Feudal society, the Orogen People were in the primitive Society of Gens nature, where they were uninformed of the objective world and regarded natural phenomena as incomprehensible and irresistible. Hence they worshiped Totems of animals and plants, which reflect their struggle against the constraint of environment. The Totems appeared to be bold with respect to art and these abstract graphs became the unique feature of the art of the Orogen People. This paper combines researches in the Totem culture and the development in modern design industry and applies these to interior design industry. Not only will we design and modify colors, figures and ornaments, but we are also going to embody in our designs the spirit and the unique characteristics of the Orogen People, which entails a deep understanding of the inner world of them.
