Wuxi Dialect Vocabulary Research

Wuxi is located in the economically developed Yangtze River Delta region, which is a prefecture-level city in Jiangsu Province. Wuxi dialect is in the transition zone of the east and west parts of northern Wu dialect, which has both of the dialect characteristics of the two parts. As a northern Wu dialect, Wuxi dialect has the general characteristics of northern Wu dialect in words and phrases. But it still has its own characteristics in pronunciation, shape and meaning. So, to some extent, it still has research value.The field survey methods were taken during our research. We launched a survey on several residents who live in the urban area of Wuxi. After the survey, we made the results into Homophony Syllabary of Wuxi Dialect and The Form of Words and Phrases of Wuxi Dialect.Thesis is divided into four parts. The first part is to introduce the pronunciation of Wuxi Dialect. The second part is Homophony Syllabary of Wuxi Dialect. The third part is The Form of Words and Phrases of Wuxi Dialect. The fourth part is to discuss the characteristics of the words and phrases of Wuxi dialect. First, based on the survey, we sumed up the Tone Sandhi in Wuxi dialect. Second, we introduced some pronunciation phenomenons in the words and phrases of Wuxi dialect. Third, we discussed the shape characteristics of the words and phrases of Wuxi dialect, with shape analysis conducted on the different shapes with same meaning between Wuxi dialect and mandarin, affixes and superimposing. Fourth, we took the meaning analysis conducted on the differences of word meaning, grammar meaning and hint meaning between Wuxi dialect and mandarin. Last, compared to The Research of Modern Wu Dialect and The Overview of Jiangsu Province and Shanghai Dialect, we took the research on the development of the words and phrases of Wuxi dialect.
