Widow Image Of The Modern Chinese Fiction

The widow image often appeared in Chinese modern novels. Writers intended to reflect times and life and to express their aesthetic ideals and value judgements by depicting this female group. It's safe to say that not only is the widow image in Chinese modern novels of various types,but it is also of rich connotations.The widow image is an indispensably important role in the image gallary of Chinese modern novels.Based on absorbing the research results of predecessors,this paper places an emphasis on the research on types of widow image in Chinese modern novels,from the surface to the core,deeply exploring the social,historical,cultural,and humanistic connotations hidden behind the varied types of widow image.This paper has three chapters.The first chapter discusses the discovery of widow image in Chinese modern novels by analyzing the social and cultural background——the vigorous development of the women's liberation movement and the literary revolution during the May 4th times,which enabled the widow image to come upon the big stage of modern literature.The second chapter classifies the widow image into six types,namely,the miserable type,the wavering type,the authoritarian type,the abnormal type,the utilitarian type,and the strong type,and meticulously analyzes them one by one.The third chapter focuses on expatiating the connotations of widow image in Chinese modern novels ,mainly from three aspects as follows:the influence of Chinese traditional ethical culture,the impact of western modern civilization and the individual pursuit of value and meaning of life.On the whole,this paper aims to make a preliminary research on the widow image in Chinese modern novels holistically by combining the social environment and the background of certain times of modern China and by using multiple methods of literary criticism comprehensively.
