| Lu Xun, who was a famous translator, adopted different strategies in his translating, especially his foreignization and stiff translation which had far-reaching influence on China's translation study. In this thesis, the author tries to apply Polysystem Theory proposed by Israeli scholar Even-Zohar and cultural translation theory advocated by Susan Bassnett and AndréLefevere to study the reason why Lu Xun chose different translation strategies in different periods.This thesis, including the introduction and conclusion, consists of six chapters.Chapter One is an introduction, which briefly introduces the research motivation, method and research purpose.Chapter Two is the theoretical framework, which briefly introduces the major point of the Polysystem Theory and cultural translation theory.Chapter Three is research background reviewing some survey of Lu Xun and previous research on Lu Xun's translation thoughts and strategies.Chapter Four introduces Lu Xun's translation strategy with vivid examples. At first, it discusses domestication strategy he adopted in his early stage with some examples. Later it studies Lu Xun's foreignization strategy.Chapter Five is the theoretical analysis on Lu Xun's translation strategy from the perspective of Poly-system Theory and cultural translation theroy. Firstly it studies the exterior reasons by analyzing the social, cultural and ideological background during May 4th Movement with the Polysystem Theory; then it analyzes inner reason of Lu Xun himself.Chapter Six is a summary of the theme of this thesis. |
