Gong Xian was a renowned painter-calligrapher in late Ming and early Qing dynasty. He is the chief of "the head of Jinling eight great painters". He is the important member of Nanjing writer community and the typical representative of the adherents to the Ming dynasty. The present generation has many research to its calligraphy works. But the research which makes friends to its biography is very scattered, and the research in poetry creation is less.This article tries hard to make up the flaw of the present research of Gong Xian. We use four chapters to explore Gong Xian's family gradually, all his life, works, communication in various circumstances. Although out of four chapters, it remains inadequate, regardless of length, or structure. He is a famous man in late Ming and early Qing dynasty, regardless of friend-wide and works.The first chapter, focuses on his life, family and his literary work, which is the key tasks need to be resolved.The second chapter, focuses on his contact with his friends. Gong Xian had made friends with nearly all the scholars. This chapter divides into six kinds:mostly officials, betrayer, the new official, monks, hermit, painter.The third and four chapters, focus on his poem. He wrote many poems in all his life, involving various forms. This section works on two views:theme and art.The ending part integrated the acceptance of Gong Xian's literature to objectively judge his status and influence in the literary history.
