Li Bai is a poet of Tang dynasty. Omar Khayyam is a poet of medieval Persia. Both the poets are not only addicted to wine but also write lots of poems on wine. Implicit in these poems on wine are not only romantic poetry and profound philosophy but also a variety of poets' feelings, such as lofty sentiment, sad plaintive. This thesis uses some critical theories to research the similarities and dissimilarities between Li Bai's poems on wine and Omar Khayyam's poems about wine. Meanwhile, I will try my best to analyze the reasons of the similarities and dissimilarities and find out the attitudes toward Life, Life Aesthetics of the two poets by putting their poems on wine into its own times and literary tradition. This thesis is divided into three parts, the preface, text and conclusion. The preface primarily reviewed some status of the topic, and pointed out its advantage and shortcomings. Otherwise, raising a question——why would the two poets extremely like drinking?——foreshadows the comparison between Li Bai's poems on wine and Omar Khayyam's poems about wine. The first part of text focuses on locating some poems about wine in their Poems. We can comprehend the fact that the two poets think drinking is reasonable; and both of them are addicted to wine. The function of this part is a matting of the text. The second part of text discusses the reasons of intoxication. One of the reason is that life is short but time is long. The other reason is that there is gastronomy in their traditional culture. The third reason is that the religion can not make them set foot into the wonderful heaven. The last one is that drinking deeply can ease their suffering. This part is the main part of the thesis. Finding out the communicating points in their poems on wine is a keystone by taking advantage of some critical theories, such as Taine and Mencius' critical theories. The third part of text intently examines the dissimilarities between Li Bai's poems on wine and Omar Khayyam's poems about wine by intercultural horizons. The conclusion summarizes the whole thesis, makes out the strengths and weaknesses of the two poets, points out that the poems have the advantages and shortcomings but the two poets possess the same outlook on life. From the terrestrial, rebellious outlook on life,we can learn that enjoying life sip by sip, facing up to the present world with joy, freedom and dignity.
