The early works of Marguerite Duras can be traced to her life experience in Vietnam, which opened the doors of literary writing for the scholars. Her middle works turned to describe the social reality of France and abandoned her familiar surroundings there. Yet the later work regressed to her surroundings in Vietnam once again, producing such works as "The Lover" and "The North China Lover". In general, most of Marguerite Duras'works covered her experience of life in Vietnam, which became the focus of research for many scholars. In the literary works, Marguerite Duras created many images of Asian, which involved a Chinese man who had a similar life background like her former lover, an excellent Japanese engineer who looked more like a westerner, a madwomen who casted a shadow in Marguerite Duras' childhood and other misshapen images of Asian. These special images attached Marguerite Duras'deep emotion during the process of writing and corresponded with those Europeans occurring in her works. In the meantime, the characters of these images were closely related with Marguerite Duras' own life experience, displaying her attitude towards the two different cultures and her unique aesthetics orientation. The French always gave consistent attention to "The Different" in their literature, considering the literature creation to be an extension of the French cultural tradition, which encouraged Marguerite Duras to break down the internal obstacles and free her from the interiority of a girl enslaved by colonist, recreating the Vietnamese and Asian culture.Marguerite Duras became conflicted under the influence of the eastern and western cultures, which turned out to be the origin of her unique writing style. She eagerly went back to France for the cultural identity, but painfully tortured by her unforgettable Vietnamese culture. Those Asian images of Marguerite Duras'works bear a dual and contradictory nature, vividly reflecting the tussle inside her.
