The feuilleton is a literary genre of both a literary and political character;feuilletons typically possess a combative spirit, and combine narrative, description, lyricism, and argument in a free-form, lively, short, concise, satirical, and humorous form. Beginning with Lutpulla Mutellip's feuilletons, this genre has a history ofabout seventy years in Uyghur literature. During this time, the genre hascontinuously developed, and a number of notable feuilleton writers have emerged. After feuilletons emerged as a substantial Uyghur-language genre, some journals began dedicating special sections to feuilletons, and thus the conditions for their development were improved still further.
