Science fiction is the branch of literature that deals with the effects of change onpeople in the real world as it can be projected in to the past, the future, or to distantplaces while concerning itself with scientific or technological change. In our Uyghurliterature the science fiction based on the traditional magic tales, fantastic classic worksthrough the translation work form Russian and Chinese begun to appear as a new subliterature types in national literature field since40thyear in20thcentury.If we account according to the experiences of the first science fiction writer who tookthis genre in to Uyghur literature, named Sultan Hashim, this literal form hasexperienced at least70yeas developing history. During these periods, the sciencefiction in Uyghur literature through the translation work came into existence, graduallyflourished, a group of restless writers have been appeared.The quality and quantities made certain ranges; many magazines gave them specialspaces, prepared a fertile ground for the healthy development of this new genre.Unfortunately, compared to these above, there are not much study on science fictions inUyghur literature but a lot of needs to systematic, scientific, and one lined researchabout science fiction. Under those urgent needs, I decide to do some research workunder the title of “Study on Uyghur science fiction”.The purpose of the present dissertation is to elucidate the emergence anddevelopment of Uyghur-language science fictions, their major authors and thoseauthors’ individual creative characteristics, the successes achieved by Uyghur sciencefictions, the problems remaining in them and some potential measures for addressingthem, and the future of this genre in Uyghur literature.The present paper consists of an introduction, four main chapters, and a conclusion:The introduction will discuss the purpose of choosing this topic—its significanceand the research’s usefulness—as well as the current state of research and the methodsof the present investigation.The first chapter not only discusses the concept of science fiction, its etymology,means and the science fiction in world literature but look through the Chinese literaturetalk about the total trend of science fiction. The second chapter will explore the science fiction in contemporary Uyghurliterature history, mainly discuss about the appearing of science fiction, its developmentstage in80thin20thcentury, and its resource of translation, independent identity as aliteral sub genre etc.The third chapter will consider the various types and forms of Uyghur sciencefiction, as well as their thematic contents etc.The fourth chapter will focus on the future development of Uyghur science fiction,its role in Uygur literature, its achievements, the problems it have been coming acrossand discuss the ways to solve theses problems and also its future.The conclusion will provide a full bibliography of all materials from which thepresent research has drawn. In addition, for the convenience of future researchers, acatalog has been prepared in which, all science fiction works to known to Uyghurscience fiction writers and their publications from the1900s to the present.
