Face recognition is a cognitive processing for individual to encode, store and retrieve face. When we see other race faces, it will feel that they all look alike to us and difficult to identify them. Compared with the own race faces, the faces of the individual characteristics is even more quickly forgotten, and its recognition accuracy decreased with time faster extension. This phenomenon has a name of "other race effect".Remembering a person's face is a complex skill, people from infants to adults have continuous needs to improve this important ability. Before growing to manhood we have contacted hundreds of own race faces, the recognizable level has been reached experts'ability. Due to lack of the necessary "training" experience, the initial recognition of some other race faces only in the random level. The results of several experiments (e.g. Elliott, Wills, & Goldstein,1973; Lavrakas, Buri, & Mayzner,1976; Malpass, Lavigueur, & Weldon,1973; see Malpass,1981, for review) suggest that training improves other-race face recognition and has little effect on own-race recognition performance. One fMRI study suggested that people's Fusiform face area (FFA) respond more activated to same-than other-race faces (Golby, Gabrieli, Chiao, & Eberhardt,2001). This study expects that life experience will affect this result: Caucasian participants who have stayed in Asian countries, their sensitivity for Asian faces will be modulated by their years of stay in Asia. This study is designed to use eye movement technology to further explore this phenomenon, trying to examine whether exercise can reduce or eliminate race effect, and how the Chinese people recognize own ethnic faces and other race faces and trying to find it's eye movement processing patterns. Using the traditional paradigm of the old and new stimuli, through the four stages of continuous exercise, so that subjects remember other race face and continuous feedback to the subjects the correct answer to be strengthened, and use eye tracker to record the gaze fixation percentage of marginal interest areas, the saccade numbers and the average saccade amplitude. Through analysis of the data, the results show below:1. Practice sessions on the elimination of race effect is valid. Different stages of effective practice to reduce or eliminate the race effect.2. On the different ethnic and cultural differences, people extract information differently, viewing the face of the own race concentrated in the nose area, and viewing the white face, mainly in the eye area.3. For the identification of different races have different stages of pupil size, pupil to see the face of the own face changed little, while the white face of the pupil has a greater change.
