| Discourse analysis mainly analyzes the using form and process of language. And coherence which is considered as the term in the field of discourse analysis is the important characteristic of discourse. Based on the literature review of discourse coherence research, this thesis elaborates the construction of discourse coherence from the perspective of cognitive linguistics. Because discourse coherence is a process dealing with language phenomena such as semantic, pragmatics, cognitive linguistics as well as many other parts, the mere analysis from the semantics perspective has its limitations.This thesis mainly elaborates how the discourse coherence is constructed in both speech communication process and discourse interpreting process in the frame of three cognitive processes: conceptual blending theory, metaphor theory and relevance theory. These three cognitive theories reveal the cognitive mechanism in interpreting and producing process of natural languages. And this has offered a theoretical basis to the dynamic research of discourse analysis. What's more, this thesis also discusses the importance and the extent in which the cognitive theories have influenced the discourse connection. For the influencing elements of discourse analysis, besides the above three theories, this thesis analyzes how the stylistic features influence discourse processing. And finally proposes a tentative model of cognitive theories applied into discourse comprehension to enhance the discourse comprehension level. At last, by analyzing the corpus, this thesis analyzes thoroughly the discourse coherence construction process and its influencing elements as well as the application of the cognitive processing mechanism which has been raised.The cohesion and coherence research has certain meaning in enhancing the discourse comprehension level. At the same time, the final proposes of discourse processing's cognitive mechanism has some influence in cultivating student's reading ability. |
