As a teaching focus and difficult one, vocabulary teaching has been a hot topic to be explored in the education field. The appearance of the vocabulary teaching theories outside and inside China plays an important rule in language teaching. However, there is no defining introduction of automobile English vocabulary teaching. Few teachers can teach the students according to their cognitive characteristics. This paper lays emphasis on basic standpoints of the frame theory which is one of the main researches in cognitive linguistics. According to the characteristics of automobile English vocabulary, it seeks an approach to automobile English vocabulary teaching that is in keep with rules of human's cognitive development. And it points out that frame theory will be used to promote automobile English vocabulary teaching practice and enhance teaching effectiveness.Fillmore defined frame----specific unified frameworks of knowledge or coherent schematizations of experience,in 1985. He put forward an understanding that frame is knowledge of which is presupposed for the concepts encoded by the words in 1992. Based on the principle of frame theory, the author finds it possible to teach automobile English vocabulary in a different but effective way.The study attempts to apply frame theory to automobile English vocabulary teaching. An action research has been carried out in order to testify whether automobile English vocabulary teaching based on frame theory can improve students'vocabulary proficiency. Author also tried her best to find out an effective modle of automobile English vocabulary teaching. The following are the steps of the four months'action research: First, students (?) questionnaires. The purpose is that find out students'vocabulary learing situation. Second, students do the test papers. The purpose is that check students' vocabulary ability. Third. teacher teaches automobile English vocabulary and helps students grasp, form, meaning and usage of the vocabulary. Teaching is based on frame theory. The time lasts eight weeks Fourth, students do a test paper which the difficulty is the same as they did in the last S weeks again. The purpose is that find out if the vocabulry ability of the students is regulated action plan, the teacher teaches automobile English vocabulary and helps students grasp form, meaning and usage of the vocabulary. Teaching is also based on frame theory. The time lasts eight weeks. Eighth, students do a test paper which the difficulty is the same as they did in the last 8 weeks again. The purpose is to find out if the vocabulary ability of the students is improved. Ninth, students do questionnaires. The purpose is to find out students' vocabulary learning situation, after 16 weeks' training. The findings indicate that students' automobile English vocabulary ability is improved. The author also found out a way of automobile English vocabulary teaching which based on frame theory in the research-----In the class, before learning the new words of automobile, the teacher can introduce background knowledge which is related to them. During the teaching process, the teacher tries to activate students'background knowledge or previous experience to construct frame by situation association, word association, word formation and categories.
