A bunch of translation theories and schools spring up in postmodern context, among which scholars of manipulation school have been considerably supportive of the translator's manipulation in terms of translator's understanding, deconstructing, and rewriting etc., and by means of which, an entirely new translation is up to par, thus serving for the translator's or the others' purpose. Political text, with its authoritative contents, well-organized structure and accurate words, reflects the characteristics of concentrated ideology, distinctive culture and complicated politics. Consequently, the singularity of political text clamps down on the translator's manipulation performance. The manipulation of political text consists of linguistic manipulation, cultural manipulation and political manipulation. In this thesis, ad hoc government work report of recent 10 years are culled as the analytical targets to examine the possibility and feasibility of manipulation of political text translation in postmodern context. In addition to that, the translator's manipulative strategies and manipulative effects are explored. All in all, it is concluded that political text manipulation is a high-level domination of language, culture and politics, by which the afterlife of source text is prolonged and perpetuated. It is vitally necessary to implement manipulation in translation. In the meanwhile, the translator is supposed to grasp relevant strategies of manipulation, keeping off random deconstruction.
