A Study On The Evolution Of Strategic Position Of Fujian Coastal Defense In Qing Dynasty

Fujian coastal defense is representative of the coastal provinces in the Qing Dynasty, research the changing process of Fujian coastal strategic position, can understand the change of coastal defense situation and object, the tortuous process of coastal defense develop to modernization in Qing Dynasty. In this paper, I'11 analyze Fujian coastal defense strategic position in the national defense strategy by analysis, comparison, and integration methods. The early Qing Dynasty, due to the opposition group led by Zheng chenggong concentrated in the coastal areas of Fujian province and engaged in actions against the Qing government, the coastal defense strategic position of fujian appear important up. Mid-Qing Dynasty, coastal defense force of Fujian was strengthened, hit southeast coastal provinces pirate activity, Sending troops to suppress Taiwan's rebellion,all these events promoted Fujian coastal defense strategic position. The later Qing Dynasty, Fujian coastal defense position has lived through three changes. During the twice opium war, because the main battleground isn't in Fujian territory, so Fujian coastal defense status dropped. From 1866 to 1885 years, Fuzhou Shipyard was founded, Fujian Navy was established, Janpan intruded Taiwan and sea fights was broke out between China and France. All of these events, Ascending fujian's coastal strategic position to the highest level. In 1886 to the qing dynasty perish period, coastal strategic focus on northern coastal, so Fujian coastal strategic position weakened. The evolution of Fujian coastal strategic position reflected the development and change of the whole coastal defense in Qing Dynasty, and also reflects the inevitable failure ending that the coastal defense transformed to modernization.
