The Influence Of Europeanized Chinese On The Development Of Modern Chinese Literature

In the history of modern Chinese literature, Europeanized Chinese played a role of promoting the development of modern Chinese literature. In fact, the emergence of Europeanized Chinese is a normal phenomenon, and very necessary. After the literary revolution in 1917, some important issues, such as the relationship between literary contents and forms, literary spirit of the time, and sociality, and language transformation, are in the program of modern literature development. Therefore, using the western language as reference becomes one of the important contents. Translated literature was vogue at that time. Large quantities of translated literatures unavoidably lead to the Europeanized Chinese.By using Even-Zohar's polysystem, this thesis firstly investigates into the shaping function of translated literature to modern Chinese literature. Modern Chinese literary forms, such as novel, poetry, drama, and essay, all assimilated nutrition from Western literature. Secondly, this thesis studies the influence of Europeanized Chinese on modern Chinese literature from the angle of Europeanization. The influence can be shown for the transformation of modern Chinese writers'thinking, aesthetics, and values. At last, the writer of thesis selects some cases from Lao She's works:Zhao Ziyue, Two Mas, Lao Zhang's Philosophy, and Camel Xiang Zi, in order to prove such influence. Lao She carries weight in Chinese academic circles. In view of Lao She's life in England and his writing background, the writer of this thesis thinks it is typical to select examples from Lao She's works.Through the research on the relations between Europeanized Chinese and modern Chinese literature, people are easy to find that new vernacular has impregnated vitality to the old vernacular, added vigor to modern Chinese writers' linguistic expression, and successfully made Chinese literature achieve its modern transformation from the old form. However, a coin has two sides. In modern society, Europeanized Chinese has possibly done its harm to Chinese linguistic purity. The aspect of Chinese needs scholars' further research.
