The Requiring Of Life In The Desired City The Ecological Aesthetic Spirit In Edward Yang's Films

As a leader of Taiwan New Movie Movement, Edward Yang has always been talked about by the crowd for his keen observation and deep argument. It has not been long for a director to make a career of directing films for more than twenty years. He has only left seven and a quarter films as a whole before his death, however, every one of them is the agglomeration of his wisdom from Edward's life. Edward Yang always focuses on the city, and all his films are trying to express the scan and reflection of the city in the process of modernization, which is from hope to suspicion, despair and return back indifferently.The main part of the essay is divided into three chapters. In the first chapter, I try to interpret Edward Yang's film from the perspective view of time. He regards these works as a result of his thoughts about the growth, aging, death of individual life in urban society. And in this point, he means to show the pain and struggle caused by the desire of the people in cities. In the second chapter, I interpret the works from the perspective view of space. Edward Yang tries to reflect the living status of the men and women trapped in the desire city and the Confucian attempting to jump out of it by using his skillful photography style to record citizens'true confusion and puzzle. In the third chapter, I establish ties with all his works and explore the return of the ecological spirit from the flow in the process of his creation and reflection.This essay combines the concern of city life and citizens in Edward Yang's films and I try to mix his personal experience, knowledge structure and persistence of local culture into the interpretation of the city. In this way, I dig and comb the process of spiritual ecological imbalances of urban people caused by social ecological imbalances. As a result, it opens up a new space for Edward Yang's film research in the ecological area.
