Among all the existing theories, relevance theory and translation are closely related and compatible with each other. The rsselevance theory is neither the theory specifically for translation, nor designed for translation, but can effectively explain those phenomenon in translation and direct the process of it. The cognitive relevant mechanisms provided by relevance theory, macroscopically it can surpass the text layer, involve in all sorts of factors of the external discourses; microcosmically it can go deep into the motivation of words layer. Considering the dynamics of translation and cognitive inference mechanism of relevance theory, it is no doubt that relevance theory is the optimal preference, and also can help us lay the foundation for translation ontology and methodology.Translation is considered as the most complex thing in the evolution of the cosmos. The complexity in translation hinders us to find the truth of it clearly; people inevitably will doubt its existence, whereas the abundance research results suggest that people has never ceased exploration over it. The general trend and the range of translation now, are becoming wider and wider, the propositions are becoming looser and looser——from"multi-disciplinary"to"non-disciplinary". In this case, the reductionist approach of translation begins from the reversed hypothesis, demonstrates reversely, trying to find the reason why"translatology"itself can be a"discipline". As for reductionism, it is to ascribe all the perplexing phenomenon to the core, and tries to find the basic law in translation and grasps its intrinsic attribute. Therefore, this paper attempts to analyze reductionist approach to translatology from the perspective of relevance theory, so as to demonstrate the compatibility of them, and how does it become the applied principle throughout the reductionist approach to translatology.
