The Reconstruction Of The Archive Of Uta-mi(?)arram, The Courier (rá-gaba) Of The Tribute Animal Center Of The Ur-iii Dynasty (As 4 Ⅰ/14-As 9 Ⅲ/24)

A large animal tribute center by the name of the Office of Puzri(?)-Dagan, which is now the Drehem site in Iraq, was built by the second term king (?)ulgi of Ur III dynasty at his 38th year's dominance. In the period of the Ur III dynasty, the royal family and court officials, the governors and nobles of the cities needed an office to manage their animal sacrifices, which were frequently offered to the deities. The palace and the officials of the royal court as well as the soldiers also needed a large number of domestic animals as food. The receiving and withdrawals of the large amount of animals required the special accounting office. It was a famous animal management center in ancient Mesopotamia, and it also occupied a very important place in the economy of the Ur III dynasty.The work in this paper is to reconstruct the documents of Uta-mi(?)arram, who was the courier and the official who of managed special and colorful flock in the tribute animal center. The 263 texts of the archives of Uta-mi(?)arram are presented by us in this part. The texts of the archive of Uta-mi(?)arram are listed chronological order in three languages: Sumerian transliterations, their English translations and Chinese translations. From the archive, we learn that the career of Uta-mi(?)arram lasted more than 5 years from the 1st month of the 4th year to the 3rd month of the 9nd year of Amar-Sin.According to the analysis from texts, we know that he was a courier (rá-gaba) but his main work was to manage the special and colorful flocks in a special corral, in which Uta-mi(?)arram gathered the special flocks such as the type of long fur (aslum), (?)ima(?)ki, Lulub, (?)arumium, Magan and four-hooves, and those of white, black and yellow color. We draw a conclusion that it was not a special fold which was of great difference from the ordinary fold. Additionally, the main work of Uta-mi(?)arram and his officers was that he took over flocks from Abba-sagga and Lugal-Amarku, and sent dead flock to (?)ulgi-urumu, the kitchen official, who managed dead animals.Through the reconstruction and analysis of the archive of Uta-mi(?)arram, we can clearly see the basic work of main officials and the administration of the tribute Animal Center, and the foundational profession and duty of Uta-mi(?)arram, which contributes to provide primeval and trustworthy documentary testimony for the research of the tribute Animal Center and the politics, economics, religion and diplomacy of the Ur III dynasty. It also provides reliable documental foundamentation for studying the elementary social form of Sumerian country.
