Self-harmony, one of the most important concepts of C. Rogers's personality theory, refers to the internal coherence of oneself and the co-ordination between self and experience. Studies have shown that the self-harmony and mental health of college students is a significant positive correlation, which can be used as an indicator of assessing students'mental health status. [1] Freshmen are the focus of mental health education. In order to understand the mental health status of students, colleges and universities will carry out the census of freshmen mental health and implement targeted mental health education. All along, mental health educators pay much attention to the issue of freshmen's adaptation. Based on the study of the relationship of daily hassles, coping styles and self-harmony of freshmen, this study tried to explore the characteristics of the three aspects and the relationship of them so as to provide certain theoretical basis and practical guidance for mental health education of college freshmen.Based on The Recent Life Experience of College Students questionnaire written by Kohn, Coping Styles questionnaire by Xiao Jihua and Self-harmony Scale, this study conducted a questionnaire survey among 488 students of Agricultural University of Hebei. Data gained in the questionnaire was tested and analyzed. The results are as follows:1,Daily hassles that are bothering college students are relationships and academic pressure. There are all kinds of factors that influence students. Girls in self-perception and relationships get higher scores than boys; students from one-child families get higher scores than others in terms of relationships, academic pressure, mixed trouble and self-perception; liberal arts students feel more pressure in academics than science students who, however, perform better in time management; rural students perform better than urban students in all aspects, especially in academic pressure and mixed trouble. Rural students have more daily hassles than urban students and these hassles naturally have greater influence on their life.2,Coping styles of college students include solving problems, asking for help, avoiding, imagining, self-blame and rationalization. There are differences existing in sex, professionals, whether they are from one-child families and where they are from. Boys perform better than girls in terms of solving problems but worse in self-blame and rationalization, which showed that boys are more positive in using coping styles; in asking for help, students from one-child families are better, liberal arts students do better than science students and urban students get higher scores than rural students.3,Self-harmony of freshmen is different in terms of sex, whether they are from one-child families and where they are from. It is not related to which grade they are in. There are significant differences on self-harmony's total scores of boys and girls. Scores of girls are obviously higher than those of boys, which showed the degree of boys'self-harmony is higher than that of girls; students from one-child families do better than others in the dimension of self-flexibility and self-rigidity; rural students do better than urban students in the dimension of disharmony between self and experience as well as the total score of self-harmony, but worse in the dimension of self-flexibility.4,When being consistent correlation with daily hassles and coping styles, the total score of self-harmony and the disharmony between self and experience have very significant positive correlation with most factors of daily hassles, negative correlation with the two factors of solving problems and asking for help; positive correlation with imagining, avoiding and self-blame. All factors of daily hassles have something to do with the factors of coping styles.5,Daily hassles and coping styles can predict all dimensions of self-harmony. They can predict the dimensions of the total score of self-harmony and the disharmony between self and experience better than those of self-flexibility and self-rigidity. The dimension of solving problems is a negative predictor for the total of self-harmony, the disharmony between self and experience and self-rigidity and is a positive predictor for self-flexibility. Imagining and falling in love are positive predictors for the total score of self-harmony, the disharmony between self and experience and self-rigidity, and are negative predictors for self-flexibility. Coping styles can predict the total score of self-harmony, self-flexibility and self-rigidity better than daily hassles do, but daily hassles can predict the disharmony between self and experience better than coping styles do.
