The Brick Caving Of Tianjing

This text is concerned with the carved brick artifacts in Tianjin during the mid-18th century to 20th century. Tianjin's carved brick artifacts, also known as " Rigid pattern" or "Soft pattern", is a kind of sculpture craft that caving image or pattern on bricks, and has been widely used in many historic buildings.Tianjin's carved brick artifacts are one of the most important and representative art form in north carved brick artifacts. The location for the research which the author chooses is Tianjin. Through site visits and a combination of literature, and though the researching history and culture of Tianjin, and comparison with other regions of carved brick, the author attempting to briefly analyze the characteristics of Tianjin's carved brick artifacts in that period. Based learning through research project, the author totally collected 1,200 pictures,158 images from books and internet, interviewed 7 related people and got basic information of 3 representative craftsmen in different period. Beyond the research, the author found that multiple cultures and new ideas collided impetuously in Tianjin during that period, as a result, the local cultures mingled proactively or reactively. However, Tianjin's carved brick artifacts recorded and explained indirectly this cultural fusion phenomenon.Through the research about Tianjin's carved brick artifacts, the author hope to find some valuable references for the transition of ethical folk culture, therefore, we can consider and posit the situation of the ethical folk culture in a fresh new way.
