| Decorative painting is a special art style in painting field, which has a long history. From prehistoric pottery to bronze ware in Shang and Zhou dynasty, from stone inscription in Han dynasty to Cave Murals in Tang dynasty, from temple murals in Yuan and Ming dynasty to wood engraving picture in Ming and Qing dynasty, these paintings appears in the form of Decorative painting. Decorative painting also has a broad field, which includes folk art, the dress printing and dyeing in contemporary life, ceramic lacquer work, indoor display and pendant decoration, is inseparable from the decoration painting. Decoration painting is different from general painting. It has the distinct individuality, free and romantic color, changeful and exaggerated modeling, rich and stable composition, widely used material, and flexible forms; which is a strong comprehensive artistic discipline. Along with the rapid economy and technology development in our country, and constantly fusion of Chinese and foreign cultural, contemporary art field also presents brand-new appearance. Art between subjects also presents diversified tendency of development. Contemporary development of decorative painting art follows the trend of The Times. Along with the emerging new theme, new modeling, new materials and technology, the artists have pay more attention to the formal language combination of decoration painting art, hoping reflecting individual and contemporary synchronous aesthetic interests and artistic conception through new artistic language.This paper systematically analyzes and studies contemporary decorative painting composition, modeling, color, material and computer painting language composition from the angle of artistic form beauty. This paper is made up of six parts; the first part is the introduction. The second part mainly discusses the concept and art features about decoration painting. It aims to understand decorative painting connotation from diversified angle in contemporary art development. The third part typically analyzes the formal beauty of traditional decoration painting on the basis of the concept of decoration painting. Innovative development of contemporary decorative painting is inseparable from the traditional reference and study. The fourth part mainly discusses the form composition of decorative painting, elements of formal beauty and aesthetic principles, which are the basis of decoration painting. The fifth part is the key part of this paper, mainly expounding contemporary decorative painting modeling, color, material and other forms of language. These characteristic features can produce different formal beauty. And formal beauty is the aesthetic source of decoration painting.
