Pun is an effective rhetorical device, which almost exists in all the languages in the world. Pun also has an honorable, long, and enduring history or tradition, and as we know, it is treated as one of the most popular tools of comic creations in many different civilizations. For a long time, many people have paid more attention to the study of puns, especially the discussion of their rhetorical effects, pragmatic functions and translations.Pun is the intentional use of a word, a phrase, a sentence, or even a paragraph, in a certain context; it can produce two or more meanings. And it can also produce humorous, ironic effects or other impressive effects in different associations. However, in this paper, the author makes a research on the analysis of pun under the explicit-implicit expression inference from the cognitive perspective, which is on the basis of the MM-based pragmatic reasoning, within the stereotypical relation (SR) and its two dimensions: proximity and similarity. The present study aims to provide a workable account for the analysis of pun in our communications. As a kind of language phenomenon, pun is deep-rooted in languages and cultures. It is hoped that this research will fulfill the understanding and flexible application of pun, and explain the analysis of pun in a cognitive point of view and other intimate domains.
