A Conceptual Integration Approach To Su Shi's Relegating Lyrics

In Chinese history of poetry, compared with Tang poetry, Song Lyrics are even more splendid. Based on poetry, Su Shi expands the explicit function and enriches the emotional connotation so as to enhance artistic lyrics. Su Lyric expresses the rational thinking which refers to life and fate. Moreover the relegation lyric is a wonderful work of art in Su Lyrics. What's more, Su Shi's relegation lyric embodies cultural spirit in Song Dynasty: stability, equanimity, optimism and magnanimity, which enrich and inspire human heart throughout the ages.Traditional relegation lyric theories mainly focus on the non- cognitive linguistic field. For example, the perspectives of sociology, physiology, aesthetics, translation, folklore, pedagogy, rhetoric, failing to give an overall account of the production and interpretation of relegation lyrics. Therefore, a cognitive approach to relegation lyric is adopted for analysis within the framework of conceptual blending theory and its conceptual integration network.We can analyze the meaning structure and illation mechanism of Su Shi's relegation lyrics through CIT theory and CIT network model by Fauconnier and Turner. The CIT runs in a network with four spaces: two input spaces, one generic space and one blended space. During the blending process, firstly elements and structures from the two input spaces set up the cross-mapping, and then they are projected onto the blended space selectively, finally through operations of composition, completion and elaboration, an emergent structure is formed in the blend. With the emergent structure, the psychological mechanism about the process of understanding the relegation lyrics will be revealed.Su Shi's relegation lyrics included the beauty masculine and feminine have different styles which are unrestrained, imposing, clear, gentle and sad. Su Shi is different with the Tang Dynasty person after relegated several times. His relegation lyric focuses on peacefulness. He acts differently by positively adjusting his attitude to adapt to the changing environment. Among the lyrics created in relegated periods, the description of self relegation situation and mood represents the lighting of life comedies and the accommodation and detachment of adversity. As limited to character format, the CIT in Chinese relegation lyric is richer and deeper than ordinary lyric. The authors of lyric usually omit the coherent vocabulary and hide it in text. This kind of creation is increase the distance between the surface-language and deep-language, and makes the reader hard to understand the meaning of text. So we apply CIT to analyze the process of meaning construction and interpretation in order to understand the relegation lyrics easily.This paper focuses on relegation lyric, which can be classified into four types from a cognitive level in the study, which is different from the traditional one in terms of form and content. The exploration of the on- line meaning construction of relegation lyric can make the backstage operation explicit and further prove that conceptual integration is a universal cognitive operation in everyday mind. This study can be verified that the conceptual blending theory can fully explain the internal cognitive work in relegation lyric understanding and prove a new perspective for the relegation lyric study.The significance of this research is to apply CIT to analyze the process of meaning construction and interpretation. Compared with the traditional method of literary appreciation, the research method of this thesis has its own advantages. It spatializes the conceptual category of human's minds and makes the contextual knowledge, background knowledge and encyclopedia knowledge applied in wider areas. Besides, during the process of blending and recombining information, an emergent structure with richer meaning will be produced. Meanwhile, it plays an important role in teaching, translation and text understanding.
