With the rapid development of the economy, the knowledge renovates fast. The school education can no longer meet the needs in work and life of the modern people, so the lifelong education is gaining more and more attention. The lifelong education requires the learners can learn on their own. The ability of the learner autonomy should be cultivated from the school education. Teachers and students gradually realize the importance of learner autonomy. This survey aims to find the learner-autonomy of the non-English major students in Huai Yin Institute of Technology in the form of questionnaire. The survey aims to test the students'autonomy awareness and how the put it into practice. Moreover, we look into the differences between male and female learners, between students of liberal art and science, and try to find out whether there are statistically significant differences. In the questionnaire, we mainly focus on the performance of these five aspects:material selection, learner agenda making, learning process monitoring, learning environment selection and strategy employment.According the analysis of the questionnaire with software SPSS 13.0,we find that: most of the students have strong intrinsic and extrinsic motivations for learning English, but they feel disappointed about the class input, because they seldom have chances to practise in class; they hold a positive attitude towards learner autonomy, but fail in action, they seldom read extra English materials, seldom take part in the English activities after class; although about half of the students have clear agenda and objective, but nearly not accords with curriculum standards; moreover, they can't access their learning process, but waiting for the teachers to find their problems passively; they have the strategy awareness, but without training on it, they are poor at adopting different strategies according to various tasks. According to the survey, there are no significant differences between male and female, student of liberal arts and science.According to the findings of the survey, this thesis brings up the suggestions for improving learner autonomy. First, we should raise learners' autonomy awareness. Second, we should help the students to set up definite and meaningful objectives. Third, we should encourage the students to monitor and assess their learning process.
