With the rapid development of the economy, technology and global integration as well, our country participates in international communication more frequently. The demand of English ability become higher and higher, in 2007, the modification of "The College English Teaching Requirements" put forward more specific requirements:in order to adapt to economic development and global communication, communicate effectively in future work and social activity and strengthen students'autonomous study ability as well, the objective of college English teaching is to cultivate students'comprehensive capability in practice, especially listening and speaking; professional English teaching is an important component of college English teaching, an effective method that could foster students transformation from language learning to language application. To ensure the continuum of college English learning, all colleges should set up ESP courses in juniors and seniors. In order to investigate problems existing in teaching and learning needs of post-CET4 students, and find out the solutions, the author does an empirical research about English learning needs on post-CET4 students.Nevertheless, the investigation shows:till now, students, teachers and employees have complaints over the results of college teaching. All objects are post-CET4 and their professional English teachers from Dalian Neusoft Institute of Information, Dalian Nationalities University and City Institute of. DUT by the way of quantitative research (questionnaire) and qualitative research(interview:semi-structured). The investigation offers a scientific, concrete and practical data and situation from four parts:1) students'current English capability; 2) students'attitude to current English learning; 3) students'attitude to post-cet4 English learning; 4) students'learning needs to post-cet4 students. The third and fourth are key points, from which we draw a conclusion.Through the survey, the author points out:1) the major reason for unsuccessful college teaching is insufficient input of valid materials. Only valid input can be transformed into long memory; 2) Traditional teaching methodology should be changed:teachers should try their best to adopt communicative approach in teaching, creating more language environment, encourage students to participate in and practice; 3) College should provide students with free resources, such as internet and multimedia, to cultivate autonomous learning ability and promote post-CET4 English teaching. It is hoped that this paper can provide some inspiration to college teachers and researchers, make graduate adapt to the needs of society.
