Being an important part of Chinese secondary education,secondary vocational education is also an esssential component of Chinese vocational education.Secondary vocational education came to its prime development in 1990s.However,its development experienced a shock along with the expansion of higher education.From the end of the last century to the beginning of this century, secondary vocational education is in a depressed state.Nowadays,the government has begun to give weight to secondary vocational education.And this brings it both opportunities and challenges. However,secondary vocational education still follows the model of ordinary education and lacks its distinguishing quality.There are many problems in English teaching in secondary vocational education,for example,the teaching objectives are not precise,teaching materials are not consummate,the teachers are not very suitable to the students and so on.Many scholars have taken efforts to solve these problems.These studies will definitely facilitate the reform and development of English teaching in secondary vocational education.Taking English teaching in Japanese secondary vocational education as a reference,the present study attempts to study English teaching in Chinese secondary vocational education aiming to solve the above problems.The contrastive study is conducted in the following four perspectives,namely,teaching objectives,teaching materials, teachers and students.The feasibility of absorbing the strengths of English teaching in Japanese vocational education into that in Chinese vocational education is also presented in the present study.This thesis consists of four chapters:The first part is an introduction which briefly introduces the background of the present study,the important notions,the research methodology,research objectives as well as the significance of the present study. Chapter one is the first main body of this thesis.It firstly examines English teaching of EGP and ESP in Japanese secondary vocational education so as to find out the beneficial aspects which can be absorbed into Chinese secondary vocational English education.It is conducted in the following three perspectives,namely,teaching objectives,teaching materials,teachers.Chapter two is the second main body of this thesis.It studies the contemporary situation of secondary vocational English teaching in China.First,pointing out the features of secondary vocational English teaching objectivesb in China.Secondly,a description of teaching materials in secondary vocational English teaching.At last,an empirical study is carried out in three secondary vocational colleges in Zhengzhou to find out the reasons for the existence of these problems.In chapter three,by making a contrastive study of Japanese secondary vocational English education and Chinese secondary vocational English education,this thesis intends to find out the existing problems so as to solve them.Chapter four analyzes the notions of EGP and ESE The analysis leads to the conclusion that the EGP+ESP model is very effective in teaching vocational English.
